Preowned
What is not to love about preowned? It is economical, saves wastage and gives access to nostalgia and some vintage pieces. But, it can sometimes leave questions, what process do preowned items go through? What is the grading system? Does it affect returns? Can I sell my stuff on? Well, this is the page for you curious wanderer.
Process
So, obtaining something preowned, seeing 9 layers of dust and that the pieces are all muddled and threatening to get lost and some people seem to imagine that it gets put online and sold like that. Not quite. Here is the deal:
- item is checked to ensure its complete (after card 456, yes, questioning life choices does happen)
- carefully cleaning the item down
- repackaging any items to keep clean and safe from loss
- all damage, if there, is shown (most common being a battered box)
- record and ID of each item so the exact item is matched to the online ID (you are buying the very one pictured)
Grading System
All preowned games will come with a grading system. It is a way to make it clearer and easier to give an impression of a games condition
GRADE NUMBER |
DESCRIPTION |
1 |
sealed/brand new |
2 |
immaculate condition - near new - no damage that is noticeable. Likely to have been either opened and unused or used handful of times |
3 |
some signs that it has been used - may have slight marks and imperfections to the box, maybe a little fold/damage to a card or token etc but it is in great condition overall, no affect on gameplay, cosmetic damage only |
4 |
signs of heavy use - likely to be fading/prominent damage although it is still useable. May be to the tune of stood on figures or a piece that isn't original but keep the game functional |
5 |
fairly poor condition - missing pieces, heavy damage, permanent stains |
Returns
It is natural to wonder if there are separate rules to preowned goods than brand new. The short answer is not really. As long as it is returned in the exact condition (to the pictures, grading) and has all of the components that it went with then the same 30 day return policy stands.
Can I sell to you?
Yes! Buying in is something that is of interest but please note that certain pieces may be politely declined. It is a right to choose and cherry pick what to take on. Please get in touch if you are interested for a little consultation, quote and information on how to go about things.
